What Is the Core Transformation Foundation Training?
Core Transformation® Foundation Training is a six-session half-day live online course in the Core Transformation process, developed by Connirae Andreas, Ph.D., and refined with Tamara Andreas. In this introduction to Core Transformation, participants learn to guide an unwanted feeling, behavior, or thought pattern to the Core State it has been reaching for. Training is experiential and participants practice the process in supervised small groups.
Core Transformation Foundation is built around one thing: experiencing the process yourself. That's what makes it work equally well for two very different kinds of people. Some arrive with a pattern in their own life - a habit, a hurt, a reaction, anxiety, relationship issues - that hasn't loosened its grip despite insight, effort, or years of personal growth work and therapy, and they want a path of transformation that doesn't depend on fighting a part of themselves. Others are coaches, therapists, and helping professionals who've heard about Core Transformation and want to begin the path to Core Transformation Coach Certification. Either way, the course teaches it the same way: by experiencing it yourself first, and then by guiding someone else through it, with support from assistants and the trainers, Mark and Tamara.
People bring many kinds of patterns: difficult emotions such as anxiety, anger, or guilt; habits and compulsions, including addictive patterns; limiting beliefs; and reactions in relationships that have not changed by trying harder. What these share is a part of the person working hard, in the only way it knows, toward something it cannot yet reach.
Connirae and Tamara Andreas developed the method together, beginning in 1989. Connirae's breakthrough followed a formative session with Milton Erickson a decade earlier and drew on years of NLP work alongside Steve Andreas; Tamara helped shape the method from its earliest written drafts through the 1990s, co-authoring the original book and training manual. The Foundation is the required first step in the Core Transformation pathway. Advanced Core Transformation, the Coach Certification, and the Trainer Pathway all begin here.
Supported by three peer-reviewed studies: a 2015 pilot in the Journal of Religion and Health, a 2019 randomized controlled trial in the Journal of Counseling and Development (n=129), and a 2026 study published in the American Psychological Association (n=219), Spirituality in Clinical Practice
What You Will Experience: The Process
Across the six sessions, you experience the full ten-step process firsthand and build the foundational skills that make it reliable: how to recognize when the deepest state has truly been reached, how to work with a part that is hesitant or protective, and how to check that every part of you is at ease with the change before you move on. This is where the practice begins - Advanced Core Transformation and Coach Certification build directly on what you experience here.
Start with Something You Want to Change
The training begins with identifying a specific feeling, behaviour or thought you want to work with You'll learn to notice the part of you involved and approach it with curiosity, rather than judgement.
Discovering what the part most deeply wants
You'll explore what the part is ultimately seeking. As you continue asking what that outcome would give you, the process moves beyond the immediate problem toward increasingly deeper outcomes.
The part reaches a Core State
As the process unfolds, the part moves through its deeper outcomes until it reaches a Core State such as Peace, Love, Oneness, or Being. The Core State is not something you create or add; it is a deeper experience that the part can discover for itself.
Reintegration
The process then turns toward integrating the experience. You'll explore what changes when the part has access to the Core State and how this can affect the pattern, your responses, and your experience more broadly.
How the Live Core Transformation Training Works
Core Transformation is learned through experience. In each session Tamara and Mark combine teaching with live demonstrations, guided personal exploration, and practice in small breakout groups. You'll see the process unfold with live demos, then have the opportunity to explore your own experience and practice with another participant while experienced assistants are available to guide and support you. Each day closes with time for questions, and several sessions include an additional thirty minutes of open Q&A.
In total the course offers roughly twenty-one hours of live instruction and practice across six sessions of three to four and a half hours each, plus the optional Q&A time. A manual accompanies the course, and every session is recorded, so you can review a demonstration or catch up on anything you miss.
Foundation gives you a direct experience of the Core Transformation process while building an initial foundation for further practice and learning. Those who want to develop the depth and skill to facilitate Core Transformation professionally can continue into Advanced Training and Coach Certification.

Why a Limitation Can Become a Doorway
Many of the methods people rely on work a little like a cast on a broken arm. The cast gives support and stability, and for a while it is exactly what is needed. But at some point the cast itself becomes the thing that limits movement. Much of what keeps a person stuck is like this: a part of them adopted a particular strategy long ago, often for good reasons, but has continued using it long after it is needed.
Instead of trying to override the part, get rid of it, or build a better way of coping, Core Transformation follows the part toward what it was reaching for in the first place. When that deeper state is experienced, the old strategy may no longer be needed, and the pattern can begin to loosen.
This is what the Andreas family means when they describe the work as gentle yet profound—and why a limitation can become a doorway rather than an obstacle.
The Research Behind Core Transformation
Core Transformation is supported by published, peer-reviewed research. There are three studies to date.
2015 pilot study
Braganza and Piedmont, Journal of Religion and Health. An early study found meaningful improvements in symptoms and wellbeing after a 10-hour Core Transformation training.
2019 randomized controlled trial
Braganza and colleagues, Journal of Counseling and Development (n=129). A community sample in India received a single session. Study study found significant moderate improvements across measures of well-being and emotional stability at four and eight weeks. The participants were a community sample rather than a clinical treatment population. Researchers used the GHQ-12, a standard screening measure of psychological distress, to identify participants whose scores were high enough to likely qualify for a psychological diagnosis. Of the 129 participants, 44 scored above this threshold before their CT session. Four weeks later, 17 remained above it.
2026 controlled study
Gray and colleagues, Spirituality in Clinical Practice, American Psychological Association (n=219). Community volunteers received two 90-minute Core Transformation sessions approximately one week apart, delivered by 25 coaches-in-training from the 2020 Coach Certification cohort. The study found significant improvements across several measures, consistent with the positive findings of earlier research.

Where Core Transformation Foundation Can Take You
For some people, Core Transformation Foundation becomes a practice they return to again and again - working with a feeling, behaviour or thought they would like to change with curiosity, rather than force. For others, the Foundation course opens the door to bring the depth and skill of Core Transformation into their work with others.
Foundation (live or video)

Available live or on video, Core Transformation Foundation is the prerequisite for the training pathway to Coach Certification.
Practice Group
Join the foundation alumni for regular live practice, with guidance from certified coaches. Practice groups meet on Zoom on the first four Saturdays of each month.
Core Transformation Practice GroupAdvanced Core Transformation Training
Six three-hour training sessions on Saturdays, each paired with a two-hour practice session. Advanced formats for complex situations and problems. You can take the Advanced course if you completed the live Foundation with Tamara or Mark, or the Foundation video course, within the last ten years.
Advanced Core TransformationCore Transformation Coach Certification

Core Transformation Coach CertificationTrainer Pathway
For those who want to teach Core Transformation, the Trainer Pathway provides a route to becoming an approved Core Transformation trainer. Once approved, trainers can purchase the licensed Core Transformation training materials for use in their own trainings.
Core Transformation Trainer PathwayFor Therapists, Coaches, and Practitioners Who Already Work With Parts
If you already work with parts in your practice, much of this will feel familiar in the best sense. Like Internal Family Systems and other parts-based approaches, it treats the inner world as intelligent rather than broken. It assumes every part has a positive purpose, even when its behavior causes pain, and it respects parts rather than trying to eliminate or override them.
What Core Transformation adds is a specific direction of movement. Rather than developing an ongoing relationship with a part, the process follows the part through its own intentions to its deepest state, and then lets the part integrate with the whole person, so that it is no longer experienced as separate. The change happens at the level of the parts' own experience, which is why the result often feels less like a pattern being managed and more like one that has quietly resolved.
Many practitioners trained in Internal Family Systems, as well as coaches and NLP practitioners, also study Core Transformation and find that the two approaches deepen each other. The question we find most useful is not which method is better, but how Core Transformation can help complement the methods you already use. In practice, many people find it becomes central to their work.
Two practical notes for professionals considering Core Transformation coaching as part of their work, whether they come from therapy, coaching, or NLP training. The process does not require clients to adopt a clinical frame or a diagnosis in order to participate, and it can be learned in a way that is structured enough to teach, supervise, and research, as the 2026 study of coaches-in-training showed. The Foundation is personal development and professional grounding in the method itself. It is not a clinical credential, and it does not certify you to practice with clients; that is the role of the Coach Certification.

Questions Before You Register
Do I need prior experience with Core Transformation or NLP?
No. You do not need to have background in Core Transformation, NLP, coaching, or therapy. Reading Core Transformation: Reaching the Wellspring Within beforehand can be helpful, but it is not required.
Does the Foundation certify me as a coach?
No. The Foundation teaches you the complete process for your own use and prepares you for further study. Certification comes through the Coach Certification, which requires the Foundation and the Advanced course first.
Can I take the Advanced course after this?
Yes. Completing the live Foundation Course including all the attendance requirements with Tamara or Mark meets the prerequisite for Advanced Core Transformation, as long as it was within the last ten years.
What if I cannot attend every session live?
Every session is recorded, and registered participants have access to the recordings for one year. If you miss a session, you can watch it in full afterward. Attending live is the best way to take part in the supervised practice.
What time zone are the sessions in?
Sessions are scheduled in Denver time. The schedule above lists each session in both Denver time and UTC. Please use the UTC times to convert to your own time zone.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, the course includes a money back guarantee.
What do I need to take part?
A computer or laptop with a webcam and microphone, a stable internet connection, and Zoom. A quiet, private space makes a real difference, because much of the work is inward.
Can I work on something personal during the practice?
Yes. You practice on real issues from your own life, and you choose what you work on. Assistants are available throughout the practice time if you would like support.
How does Core Transformation relate to Internal Family Systems?
Both work with internal parts and both recognize a positive purpose in every part. Core Transformation also guides each part to its deepest state and integrates it with the whole person, so it is no longer experienced as separate. Many practitioners use both.
Is Core Transformation a substitute for therapy?
No. The Foundation is an educational course, not clinical treatment. Many therapists study and use the method in their work, but if you are in crisis or need clinical care, please work with a licensed professional first and consider the course when the time is right.
Begin With the Foundation
The Foundation is where every certified coach and trainer in this work began. For many people it is also something simpler: a gentle, transformative way to meet what has been hardest in their own lives, and the beginning of a personal transformation that continues long after the six sessions end. Whichever brought you here, you are welcome, and we would be glad to teach you.
